Cycling For Century Rides
Chances are, you have been training the entire summer for all of the long rides, and you have now worked yourself up from twenty five miles to thirty five miles, and then on to forty five miles, and then sixty. Finally, you have just recently pedaled for seventy long ones. Congratulations are now in order. The ultimate goal that you set for yourself, just the same as with the majority of other cyclists, is one hundred miles or the cycling century rides.
The main reason for this is because it is a very lofty achievement, and it sets you apart from the true recreational weekend warrior and it truly demonstrates your grit. Now, let’s take the time to go over a checklist of all of the things you should have learnt by now, and then add a couple of things to be used for the long haul that is approaching. First and foremost, you have probably learnt to carb up the night right before the long ride with baked potatoes or spaghetti or maybe both.
You probably have also learnt that you should be fully hydrated and that you should drink a lot of water the day before. You should also avoid alcohol within all forms several nights before you are scheduled to ride. Secondly, you should have all of your clothes laid out based on the weather that you are going to encounter, as well as your energy drink in one of the two water bottles that you should have and an energy bar.
Thirdly, you are going to need to lube and clean the bike, make sure that all of the tires are pumped up, that you have extra tubes, a tire pump, tire-changing tools, a computer, sunscreen, heart rate monitor, and sunglasses. Finally, the night before, you should participate in some physical and mental preparation. You should do a mental checklist of all of your abilities because that is always a good thing to do, in order to reassure yourself that you have trained for the cycling century rides, and you are ready.
You should make sure that all of your gear is prepared for your early departure in order to add some additional confidence, and then do a little light stretching right before you go off to sleep. Above all else, you should mentally plan to have a wonderful ride, without experiencing any complications and really and truly enjoy yourself because you are indeed prepared.
If possible, the morning before the event, you should take a hot shower so that it can warm your legs up, make sure that you don’t consume a large meal, just eat enough to get you up and going and have some energy bars somewhere within your jersey, in order to satisfy all of your hunger before you reach your first rest stop. Now that you know how you should prepare for cycling century rides, you are well on your way to becoming a great success.
