Century Ride Events: The History Of The Solvang Century
In this article, we are going to discuss century ride events, the history of the Solvang Century. In nineteen eighty three, the very first of these century ride events was held in order to raise funds for some sort of club debt. In nineteen eighty two, the Cardiac Cyclists Club SCOR sent fourteen riders on a relay ride that was non-stop, this ride started at the Avenue of the Stars within Century City to the final destination of the Avenue of Flags within New York City within twelve days, one hour, and fifty minutes.
Even though the majority of the expenses were paid for, the truth of the matter was that SCOR owed up to two thousand dollars in debt. Up until nineteen eighty three, all of the primary fund-raisers for the club were aluminum can and paper drives. It wasn’t long before it came very clear to them that it was going to take a whole bunch of cans and newspapers to raise two thousand dollars.
Instead, the club decide to take this club ride that it had been participating in within Solvang since nineteen seventy five and open it up to all of the general public. The end result was three hundred riders and a ride that was born. Even though inexperienced in putting all any type of bike rides, the ride worked out very well. There were twelve thousand riders that came through the following year.
Since this time, the ride has grown to three thousand and seven hundred riders. In nineteen eighty nine, there was a second venue that opened in Santa Maria and in nineteen ninety four, there was an option for a half-century that was added because of continued requests for a much shorter route.
Throughout the years, SCOR has always done their part to emphasize safety, and service. Their accident rate is one broken bone per two hundred and twenty four thousand man- miles ridden within the last nineteen years and that is much lower than the accident training rate where you live. In the event that you are planning to participate in this event or any other century ride events, you need to make sure that you register ahead of time and that you allow yourself plenty of time to prepare.
Whether you realize it or not, this is a major event, and you are going to need to be one your toes in order to get the job done. You can expect to visit any century ride events without any practice and expect to win, but that isn’t how it works. Century ride events offer you the experience the competitive sport of bicycling while enjoying all of the beautiful scenery.
